Bodycream is a key part of many people’s beauty routines, as it can help to keep skin soft and supple. Here is how to create your own body cream at home.

Ingredients for Making Body Cream

Start by gathering together the following ingredients to make your body cream:

The almond or olive oil acts as a moisturizing base for the body cream. Coconut oil adds even more moisturizing ability, while the beeswax thickens the cream. If you want an even thicker body cream, with a texture similar to a body butter, then add two tablespoons of shea butter or cocoa butter to the ingredients given above.

Optional Ingredients for Body Cream

Some people add a teaspoon of vitamin E oil to their homemade body cream. Vitamin E oil could help to nourish the skin; it is often used to prevent the development of stretch marks or aid in the healing of scars. In addition, you may want to add a teaspoon of essential oil to give your body cream a scent that you like. Lavender oil is a popular choice for adding scent to homemade body cream. You can also a teaspoon of vanilla extract if that is a scent you enjoy.

Combining Body Cream Ingredients

Find a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid that can hold at least a pint of liquid. A mason jar is ideal, but an empty olive or pickle jar is also suitable – just make sure you wash it thoroughly before you use it for making body cream. Combine all the ingredients in the jar, and seal the lid tightly.

Making Body Cream

Pour a couple of inches of water into a large saucepan, and place it over medium heat. Check that the jar is tightly sealed, and then place it in the pan. As the water starts to heat up, the heat transfers to the contents of the jar, causing them to melt and combine. You should occasionally take the jar out and shake it to encourage the ingredients to mix together. Don’t leave the pan unattended, as it might boil dry. Once all the ingredients have been combined, turn off the heat and transfer the body cream into the container you want to use to store it.

Storing Body Cream

Body cream should be stored in an airtight container. Even though this body cream recipe contains no preservatives, it can last for around six months, as all the ingredients are shelf-stable.
